Pet Food Pantry

We will have several collection locations for pet food, toys, litter, collars and leashes. Once all the collection sites are established we will post here and on Facebook.

Please consider dropping an item in the collection box throughout the year. We never know when a tragedy may effect us. Tornado, fire, illness, loss of income, death. Any of these events can change a family without notice. Many times a helping hand is needed until the family is back on their feet. A little kindness by dropping a can of food in a box can make a big difference for a pet.

Please look for the CAARE Pet Pantry collection box and make a difference.

Veterinary Assistance

Just as families face unexpected medical emergencies, so do our pets. These costs may run into the hundreds or sometimes over a thousand dollars.

CAARE will partner with veterinaries to discount services for these pets. CAARE will also work with the families to find the best solution for funding the needed treatment. There are many national organizations that provide financial assistance for disadvantaged pets. If other resources are not available, CAARE will assist based on need and available funding.

CAARE will also provide low cost vaccinations, microchipping, testing, and spay/neuter during the year to help families care for their pets. This will be done through events such as BARKtoberfest or arrangements through local veterinarians.

Vaccinations...

Your donations will provide low cost vaccinations for pets in need.

Many pets are not being vaccinated due to financial hardship. This is not good for the pets or the community. To have a community be pet friendly, all pets need to be current on vaccinations, primarily rabies vaccinations.

With your donation, we will work with local veterinarians to provide vaccinations at the lowest price possible.

Emergencies...

As with people, a pet can have a medical emergency at any time. Pets suffer from many of the same illnesses as humans.

Seizures, heart problems, cancer and so on, can start at any age without warning. Many of these illnesses can be treated and the pet may live a long happy life with their family. But many families cannot afford to treat a sudden illness.

CAARE will work with families to find the best financial options to have the illness treated. There are many organizations that provide funding for emergencies, but it's difficult for many who do not have access to computers or know how to seek these options. If other options cannot be find, CAARE will work with the family to provide support for treatment of their pet.

Spay/Neuter...

Through education and providing spay/neuter assistance, we will help families find the lowest cost to have their pets spayed or neutered.

Pet overpopulation is a problem that can only be resolved by responsible pet care. Having pets sterilized to prevent unwanted litters will reduce the pet overpopulation.

In addition to reducing the pet overpopulation, sterilizing pets before the age of 6 months has many health benefits for your pets. Providing education on the benefits of early age spay/neuter and by providing low cost options, CAARE hopes to encourage more pet owners to take this action in saving pets from euthanasia.

Limited Foster Care

Noone can predict when an emergency will happen. If a pet owner needs to be admitted into a hospital or nursing home for a temporary stay and cannot afford to board their pet or have a family or friend care for their pet until they return, CAARE will provide a helping hand. Depending on the situation, CAARE will either take the pet into foster care or assist with boarding expenses.

Working through Behavioral Problems

One of the issues, facing our local animal shelters, is families surrendering pets due to behavioral problems. Many of these behavioral issues can be resolved through educating the owners and training the pets.

CAARE will provide guidance for pet owners. There are many free publications to help an owner correct the behavior. Many of these issues will not be corrected overnight and the pet owners need to be willing to work with their pets. In the event professional dog training is needed, CAARE will work with local trainers and businesses to help provide this training.

Pet Pre-adoption Guidance

Many of our volunteers have been involved in volunteering with rescue groups over the years. One issue stands out in many pet relinquishments, they adopt a pet not suited for their life style.

Many people are driven to adopt a pet based on popularity, looks, size, or status. Once they get the pet and behavioral issues arise, the next step is to turn the pet into a shelter or rescue group. Research shows a high percentage of pets adopted are returned or taken to shelters within the first six to nine months. This is very difficult for the pet and family members, especially children.

CAARE will provide the tools for families to select the right pet for your family lifestyle. Selecting the right pet is more than just looking into their big brown eyes. Families need to consider cost: feeding, veterinary, grooming, inherited medical issues, etc. If your family has limited income, selecting a pet that will fit into your financial budget in critical.

Be informed before you adopt so your family and pet will have a long and happy life.
